Science Undergraduate Scholarships

Purpose: To support students who are enrolled at 100-level in a BSc degree majoring in Biological Sciences at UC.

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $3,000 per annum for up to 3 years.

Closing date: 31 March

Purpose: To support undergraduate and postgraduate honours students at UC who have an interest in the energy needs of Aotearoa New Zealand. Applicants would be majoring in Economics, Engineering, Science, or other subjects of relevance to the energy needs of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $5,000 for one year.

Closing date: 31 March

Details: To support students studying Computer Science at UC. Applicants must be enrolled in either (a) the final year of an honours degree in Computer Science; (b) a Master's degree in Computer Science; or (c) a PhD in Computer Science.

Value: Financial assistance for one year to the value of: (a) $2,000 for honours or masters students doing courses; (b) $7,000 for master's thesis students; or (c) $8,000 for PhD thesis students.

Closing date: 31 March

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to enable students to obtain tertiary qualifications in the physical sciences with the potential to contribute to the technological wealth of New Zealand. Specific eligibility criteria applies, check Regulations for details.

Value: Financial assistance towards tuition fees up to a value of $7,000 for one year.

Closing date: 31 March

Purpose: To recognise the academic achievement of final year Economics or Finance undergraduate students studying in subjects based on pure and applied mathematics. 

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $3,000 per annum for up to two years.

Closing date: 31 March

Purpose: To support undergraduate students in the third year of a BE (Hons) studying Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering; or the second year of a Bachelor of Data Science or a BSc in Computer Science at UC who have an interest in software development and/or using data analysis.

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $10,000 for one year. Plus, if available, Lumin may also offer a paid summer employment opportunity.

Purpose: To encourage and promote undergraduate study in the area of agricultural engineering. Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's or honours that includes at least one course in agricultural engineering.

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $1,000 for one year.

Purpose: To support undergraduate students in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Software Engineering at UC. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in one of the following: (a) the Third or Fourth Year of a BE(Hons) degree specialising in either Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or Software Engineering; (b) a 300-level programme for a BSc or BSc(Hons) majoring in Computer Science.

Value: Financial assistance at a value of $5,000 for one year; plus, if available, Tait Communications may offer a paid summer employment opportunity.

Closing date: 31 March

Purpose: To support students in their  first, second, or third year of their undergraduate studies in a programme in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at UC.

Value: Financial assistance to a value of $7,000 for one year; plus, if available, a paid internship opportunity.

Closing date: 31 October

Purpose: To recognise and support high-achieving 200-, 300-, or 400-level students majoring in Applied Data Science, Computational and Applied Mathematical Sciences, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics at UC.  

Value: Financial assistance at the value of: (a) $5,000 (Category A awards); (b) $2,500 (Category B awards); (c) $1,000 (Category C awards)

Closing date: 31 March - This scholarship is not available for 2025
