Receiving the Catherine Sinclaire Lees Memorial Grant in Art History and Theory has made a meaningful difference in my studies at the University of Canterbury. Balancing Art History and Theory with my Fine Arts studies requires sustained focus, and this support eased the pressure of managing study, health commitments, and living costs at the same time. It also meant I didn’t need to take on additional employment, which allowed me to engage more deeply with my courses and studio projects.

It is meaningful to be supported through a grant that reflects Catherine  Sinclaire Lees’ contribution to the arts and to see her legacy continue in the university community. The stability this grant provided helped me access essential texts and materials and maintain consistent momentum in my  research and studio work.

I’m grateful for the opportunities this support has created and for the  difference it has made to my studies.

2024 UC Hiranga Scholarship

"During my time studying Fine Arts, I was honoured to receive scholarships that significantly supported both my education and artistic development. These awards not only alleviated the financial burden of tuition fees, but also enabled me to access creative materials I would not have otherwise been able to afford. With this support, I was able to explore a broader range of painting techniques and mediums, which furthered the growth of my artistic practice.

Beyond financial assistance, these scholarships also provided me with a deep sense of encouragement and validation as both a student and artist. Their impact allowed me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies and reaffirmed my commitment to developing the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the arts."
