How to start your application
Applications are made online through our UC Scholarships website. Detailed instructions on how to apply for scholarships is on our 'Apply for a UC Scholarship' page, and a summary is listed below:

"The transition from high school to university can be a scary one. All of a sudden you’re in a new city surrounded by incredibly bright and talented people who know exactly what they want out of university. Receiving a scholarship was, for me, a welcome reassurance that I belong and am on the right path. It gave me confidence in my abilities during a daunting but exciting time.
Beyond the financial assistance, the UC scholarship has opened doors for me that have led to mentorship, amazing friendships, and outdoor adventures in the beautiful Ōtautahi region."

Reference information for applicants
Not all scholarships require a reference, whereas others may require more than one. If a reference is required for the scholarship(s) you have chosen to apply for, a "Request" Section will appear on the application dashboard. Please read the information provided in the Request Section, including examples of who can/can’t provide certain references types.
The potential reference types are:
- School Reference
- Character Reference
- Māori Cultural Involvement Reference
- Pacific Cultural Involvement Reference
- Sports Reference
- Enterprise Reference
- IB Reference
Please ensure you have selected ALL scholarships you wish to be considered for BEFORE you send any reference requests. Some scholarships may require specific information from your referee, so if you send a request and your referee completes and submits it early, and you then decide you want to be considered for another scholarship, there may be additional questions that will not have been completed. As there can only be one reference per "reference type", these cannot be resubmitted.
Once you have confirmed all the scholarships you wish to apply for, you should request your reference(s) as soon as possible. Click on the Request Section icon and complete with your referee's details. This will send an email to your chosen referee(s) requesting a reference. This should be done as soon in the process as possible so your referee(s) can complete this section by their closing date.
The reference deadline is one week after close of applications (14 August). Please remember to keep an eye on the status of your reference/s to ensure they are completed on time. If your status remains at "Request Pending" at the application close-date, please contact your referee/s to remind them to complete their reference before their deadline.
Once a reference has been completed, both you and your referee will receive an email confirmation. If you have not received this confirmation for one or more of your references, please check the status of your application and the individual reference sections to see if you need to get in touch with your referee to remind them to complete the reference before the closing date.
Please remember, you can submit your application before any required references have been completed. DO NOT wait until references have been completed to submit your application, as this may mean that the application deadline has already passed and you will not be eligible for consideration.
Submitting your application
Once you have completed all sections of your application (all sections are at 100%), go to the scholarship dashboard and click the 'Submit' button on the top right hand side of the screen.
When your application has been successfully submitted, you will be sent an email confirmation of this and your Application Status (visible in you 'My Applications' tab) will update to either “Submitted” (fully submitted and any required references are also completed) OR “Request pending” (fully submitted, but one or more required references still pending completion). If you do not receive the confirmation email, please first check your spam folder, and then double-check your application to ensure it has been submitted correctly. If in doubt, contact the Scholarships Office.
A reminder email will be sent to all people with incomplete applications one week before the deadline. If you receive this email, please don’t ignore it, even if you think you have submitted your application. This reminder is only sent to applicants with an incomplete application so it therefore means your application has NOT been recorded as successfully submitted.
Keep checking your emails and scholarship status throughout the application process including after the scholarship has closed. They may need more information from you or have important information for you.
REMEMBER:
- Don't leave submitting your application to the last minute! Submit your application before the closing date. This date is not flexible. The selection panel receives many applications and can often be ruthless in the elimination process.
- To ensure your application has been submitted correctly, check that the status in 'My Applications' has changed to ‘Submitted’ and that you received an email confirming receipt of your application. If it still says 'Pending Submission' and you did not receive an email - your application has not been submitted!
- If your status has changed to 'Request Pending', it means your application has been submitted correctly but there is at least one Reference which is still outstanding. It is a good idea to follow up with your referee to ensure they have received the request and know the closing date for their submission.
- Regularly check your emails (including junkmail/spam folders) and the status of your application for updates.
Information about offers
Results for this application round will not be released until at least the first week of October, in line with accommodation offers. Some committees may take longer to come to a consensus than others, which can delay notification of the results for those scholarships.
We will send individual notifications for any scholarships where you have been selected as a first-choice recipient. However, please note that if you get more than one scholarship offer, the scholarships may not necessarily be co-tenable. Our office must send offers for any scholarship the committee has selected you for, regardless of whether they are co-tenable or not. It is up to you to decide which scholarship(s) best suit your needs. Co-tenability information can be found in your offer and the scholarship regulations.
If you receive at least one offer, you will not receive an "unsuccessful" notification for any other scholarships you applied for where you were not selected as a first-choice recipient. Only applicants who have not been selected as a first-choice recipient for ANY scholarships included in this application round will be sent an "unsuccessful" notification. Please do not ask about the outcome of individual scholarships if you have received at least one offer, OR the "unsuccessful" notification.
First-choice recipients will have until the last week of October (approx. 28 Oct) to accept or decline their offers, at which time we will look at sending reserve offers, where applicable. Even if you have previously received an "unsuccessful" notification, you may still be nominated as a reserve candidate by the committee, so please keep an eye on your emails, even through November/December. If you have previously been offered a scholarship and then receive a reserve offer for another scholarship, please check co-tenability information to ensure they may be held together, prior to accepting your new offer.
