English language requirements for postgraduate qualifications - Level 1

HOW TO APPLY

To study a postgraduate qualification at UC you must achieve the minimum requirements in one of the following English language tests:

 

English testMinimum requirements
CAE or CPEScore of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

CCEL EAPLevel 2 with a minimum B+ grade.

DETMinimum total score of 120.

IELTS AcademicAn average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

LanguageCert (IESOL)C1 Expert (LRWS) with HIGH PASS or C2 Mastery (LRWS) with PASS.

LanguageCert (Academic)Minimum score of 70 overall, with no skill below 65.

NZCELLevel 5.

Pearson Test of English (Academic)PTE with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50.

TOEFL iBTTotal minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.

Note: successful completion of the Pre-masters One Semester (CertArts) (taught on-campus by UCIC) will also satisfy the English Language Requirements for admission to most Master's programmes at UC. Check the list here

Providing evidence to UC

If you receive an Offer of Place that is conditional on you passing an English language test, please upload your test results on the 'Information Required' page in myUC.  This will notify the Admissions team that you have uploaded your evidence.
