We strongly advise you to apply as early as possible as places in this programme are limited and in high demand.

2027 OSI information for distance students
- Your programme begins on Monday 1st of February and includes a compulsory two week OSI (on-site intensive). This runs from Monday 1st of February to Friday 12th of February. This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi, a noho marae experience (a visit to a marae, including an overnight stay) and course work. It also provides opportunities to meet your fellow students and the staff. For the OSI please ensure you are available each day between the hours of 8:30am to 5pm for the full duration. A customised timetable will be available on your first day from your programme coordinator for OSI. Please refer to this timetable during OSI.
- On your first day, Monday 1st of February, you will arrive on the Ilam campus at 8:30am outside C block, to register and prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony). Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
- Noho marae overnight stay for all distance students (seconday and primary) is scheduled for Thursday 4th of February, returning to campus Friday 5th of February. Appropriate attire is required for the pōwhiri ceremony at the marae. Tidy semi formal is acceptable. You are also required to bring your own sleeping bag, change of clothes and any medication/toiletries for the overnight stay. A pillow/pillow case and sheet will be provided. Detailed instructions will be provided at the noho marae briefing.
- Monday 6th of February is Waitangi day (public holiday). No teaching on this day.
- Travel and accommodation costs associated with your OSIs are not included in your course fees.
- Distance study is not currently available for students completing the Secondary Education endorsement, only the alternative entry pathway.
2027 OSI information for Christchurch on-campus students
- Your programme begins on Monday 1st of February and includes a ctwo week OSI (on-site intensive). This runs from Monday 1st of February to Friday 12th of February. This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi, a noho marae experience (a visit to a marae, including an overnight stay) and course work. You will also meet your fellow students and the staff. For the OSI please ensure you are available each day between the hours of 8:30am-5pm for the full duration. A customised timetable will be available on your first day from your programme coordinator for OSI. Please refer to this timetable during OSI.
- Part-time students must attend all their scheduled classes but can attend extra orientation activities offered at UC in their free time.
- On your first day, Monday 1st of February, you will arrive on the Ilam campus at 8:30am outside C block, to register and prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony). Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
- Noho marae overnight stay for campus primary students is scheduled for Tuesday 2nd of February, returning to campus Wednesday 3rd of February. Campus secondary students are scheduled over two seperate days due to larger numbers. Majority will head out Tuesday 9th of February, returning to campus Wednesday 10th of February and the overflow will head out Wednesday 10th of February returning to campus Thursday 11th of February. Appropriate attire is required for the powhiri ceremony at the marae. You are also required to bring your own sleeping bag, a change of clothes any medication and toiletries. A pillow, pillow case and sheet will be provided.

International students
- International students are required to attend a Faculty of Education International Orientation on Friday 29th of January at 8:30am to 12pm in Rehua 009. This is held prior to your programme formally starting.
- In addition to the compulsory orientation, International students are also invited to attend a UC-wide international student welcome and orientation activities. Information can also be found at International Student Support.
