About University of Bergamo

  • Located in Lombardy, northern Italy.

About Bergamo

  • Located in Lombardy in northern Italy, a welcoming and well-connected city situated between Milan and the Alps.
  • It combines the historic Upper Town (Città Alta) with the modern Lower Town (Città Bassa). 
  • Bergamo’s Venetian fortifications form part of the UNESCO World Heritage property ‘Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th Centuries’. 
  • Milan Bergamo Airport is about five kilometres from the city and is connected to central Bergamo by public bus.

What you will experience:

  • Complete a challenge-based, student-oriented course
  • Meet local tourism stakeholders and examine community-based tourism planning in practice.
  • Take field visits to Bergamo’s UNESCO-listed Venetian fortifications and the UNESCO World Heritage workers’ village of Crespi d’Adda.
  • Develop intercultural awareness through academic collaboration and everyday life in Italy.

Below is the tentative programme itinerary:

  • 21 October - Online meeting and Study Visit presentation
  • 22 November - Arrival in Bergamo, Italy
  • 23 November - Visit to the University of Bergamo and the city of Bergamo
  • 24 – 26 November – Full-day class
  • 1 – 2 December – Full-day class
  • 7 – 9 December – Full-day class
  • 15 – 16 December – Full-day class
  • 16 December – Christmas Party

  • Programme fees will be covered by the partner university
  • Flight estimate: between NZ$3,000 and NZ$5,000
  • Accommodation estimate: NZ$500 - $1,000 per week in Bergamo or Milan
  • Other expenses, e.g. local transportation, meals, etc: expect around NZ$150+ per week

The actual cost may vary depending on factors such as when you book, the route you take, how flexible you are with dates, and the type of accommodation you choose.

*No student accommodation is provided by the University of Bergamo. The accommodation cost estimates are based on alternatives such as nearby hotels or Airbnb.

There are a limited number of Global Experience Awards available for UC Business School students selected to take part in a global short course in 2026.

Award values for this short course:

Global Experience Award: $800

The award is primarily intended for domestic undergraduate students, specifically BCom students and those majoring in Economics, Finance or Financial Engineering under the BSc or BA.

From 2026, students must apply for the Global Experience Award as part of their initial short course application. Selection will be based on:

  • Depth of reflection on global experience and its relevance to your personal growth and future career
  • Willingness to share your experience with others (e.g. through social media, student events, or mentoring)

The Global Experience Award is paid as a reimbursement and will be processed once students have accepted their place and submitted all required documentation.

Students who have previously received a Global Experience Award are not eligible.

120 points completed towards one of the following degrees (with a GPA of at least 4.0/B- average):

  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Science in Economics, Finance or Financial Engineering
  • Bachelor of Arts in Economics or Finance 

In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria above, students must provide a personal statement when applying for the programme, which will be taken into account in determining who is selected to participate in it. There may also be a limit placed on the number of students who can participate.

If there are more applications than places available, the basis of selection will be demonstrated academic achievement in the form of an applicant’s GPA and the quality of the personal statement. Equal consideration will be given to both criteria. Students must also be accepted by the partner institution.


UC Business School CQ Certificate

This is an approved experience under the UC Business School CQ Certificate. Students who complete the experience, as well as meet all other requirements, will receive a UC Business School CQ Certificate.
