Steve Wakefield retires as University of Canterbury Pro-Chancellor

Steve Wakefield is stepping down from his role after four years as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury Council.

An accountant by profession, Steve has a big heart for the community and has focused on adding value through strong governance. His strong commitment and contribution to the Council has had a meaningful impact over the past four years.

When sharing about his retirement UC's Chancellor Sue McCormack said, "Steve was appointed to UC Council in 2017 and has been a fine Pro-Chancellor, supporting me in my role as Chancellor and bringing vast expertise and experience in governance to the Council table. His professional background and close knowledge of Christchurch’s rebuild and rejuvenation has been invaluable."

In 2017, Steve Wakefield was appointed to the Council by the Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment. He was elected Pro-Chancellor of the Council and has been on the following Committees at the University:

  • Executive Committee
  • Finance, Planning and Resource Committee
  • Audit and Risk
  • Honours and Appointments Committee
  • Vice-Chancellor Appointment Committee

Hon Amy Adams will Te Kaunihera o Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the UC Council after being recently appointed by the Minister of Education Hon Chris Hipkins.
