HOW TO APPLY

Shake table equipment

We are shaking things up amongst the NZ universities!

If you work in the field of structural engineering these days you need to be aware of the rules and regulations regarding earthquake safe-guarding. But where do these rules come from.

Seisemic Lab The Structures Engineering Lab

Well, from the ground-breaking work that we do here at UC for one!

A key piece of equipment for testing new technology (like earthquake proof window frames, foundations made of recyclable material...) is the shake table. And we are building a new one!

No other university in NZ will have a shake table as large as the one we are going to build. At a circa $1.5M investment that will sit in our grand SEL structures lab, we are building a large modular shake table that will be able to be configured for a variety of research applications. This high speed dynamic testing system has been the result of many hours work from our team of technician Dave, Lab Manager Alan Thirlwell, Research Specialist Dr. Giovanni De Francesco and Academic Lead Professor Santiago Pujol. Below is a drawing of the parts due to be installed and completed over the next few weeks.
