Puaka-James Hight Building on show

19 May 2021

Puaka-James Hight Building in Open CHCH festival of exceptional architecture

HOW TO APPLY

On Sunday May 16 Puaka-James Hight Building was host to Cantabrians curious about the tallest library in the city.

Puaka-James Hight was one of 46 buildings to partake in Open CHCH - an event celebrating local architecture and an opportunity to take a look inside buildings not always open to the public. The enduring modernity and brutalist architecture of PJH was ejnoyed by over 80 people and Te Rua Makerspace welcomed families to explore creative activities such as 3D printing and badge making.

If you missed this event you can still come and visit Puaka-James Hight. Take yourself on a tour with our self-guided information sheet or browse through the exhibition space on level 2 near the elevators. Our display there showcases the architecture, construction and history of the library, featuring archival material from our Macmillan Brown Library.

Check out the online collection of Puaka-James Hight-themed items from our archives on Kā Kohika - our art and archives catalogue.
