WiE CAN is an annual 5 day/4 night Women in Engineering residential programme featuring a range of interactive workshops, inspiring presentations, and fun social activities. You will be immersed in student life and experience the range of engineering subjects on offer at UC.
There are 60 places available and you don’t have to be top of the class to apply!

WiE CAN details
Date: 10-14 January 2027. You will arrive the afternoon of Sunday 10 January to settle in and meet your fellow students, and depart Thursday 14 January after 12.30 pm.
Location: University of Canterbury, Christchurch.
Accommodation: Tupuānuku
Cost: FREE! UC will provide accommodation and meals during the programme, from afternoon tea on Sunday 10 January through to morning tea on Thursday 14 January. Any other meals or accommodation required are at the expense of the attendee.
Attendees are responsible for travel to and from the camp. Support with travel costs may be available for successful applicants who are facing financial barriers.

For WiE CAN 2027, we are receiving applications through our UC Scholarships Portal.
Create an account in myUC
- As you are new to UC, you will need to create a myUC account and provide some details about yourself to build your profile (e.g. your date of birth, legal name, contact details, education history, learning needs, NSN, and a scan of your passport or birth certificate).
- Once you have created a myUC account, click the “Apply for Scholarship” link on the left-hand menu.
- Use the “search” function on the top left to find “Women in Engineering Residential Programme Scholarship”.
- Click the “Apply here” button on the application. This will then bring the application into your myUC account and you should now be able to work on it within your “My Applications” tab.
Complete your application
Start your application early. You can save and come back to it later if you need more time to think about questions.
You will require the following details for your application:
- Your personal details
- A school reference (name and contact details required – please seek their permission)
- Your school subjects, including a transcript of your recent results.
- A clear and concise commentary (text or video file) outlining why you should be chosen for WiE CAN 2027.
- A description of the future aspirations (related to a STEM field) you have that would make a positive contribution to the world.
- A description of the diverse skills, experiences or beliefs you have that when applied in a group setting would lift the outcomes of that group.
Submit your application
Do not leave submitting your application to the last minute! Submit your application before the end of Friday 28 August 2026. This date is not flexible. The selection panel receives many applications, so ensure it is in on time.
To ensure your application has been submitted correctly, check that the status in “My Applications” has change to “Submitted” and that you received and email confirming receipt of your application. If it still says “Pending Submission” and you did not receive an email, your application has not been submitted.
