WiE CAN is a 5 day/4 night Women in Engineering residential programme featuring a range of interactive workshops, inspiring presentations, and fun social activities. You will be immersed in student life and experience the range of engineering subjects on offer at UC.
Each year there are 60 places available and you don’t have to be top of the class to apply for WiE CAN!

The world needs engineers! Engineering touches all aspects of our everyday lives – the roads we drive on, the water we drink, the smartphones we use to communicate with our friends, and so much more!
We believe engineering solutions are better when they’re created by diverse teams which is why we want to inspire the next generation of female engineers to change the world!
Date: 17 - 21 January 2021. WiE CAN will proceed provided, Christchurch is at Alert Level 1 at the time of the programme.
Location: University of Canterbury, Ilam Campus (Christchurch).
Eligibility: Open to female students* completing Year 12 in 2020 at a New Zealand high school and going into Year 13 in 2021. Students must be over the age of 16 years old by 17 January 2021 and currently studying maths and physics.
Accommodation: Rochester and Rutherford Hall of Residence
Cost: $575 – includes accommodation, food and activities during the week. Excludes travel to and from the camp.**
Scholarships: Māori, Pasifika, Fee Support Scholarships and Industry Sponsorship opportunities are available.

WiE CAN Scholarship Opportunities
Māori & Pasifika Scholarships
UC Engineering is offering a number of full fee scholarships to students of Māori & Pasifika descent. These scholarships include full coverage of the programme fee, which include food and accommodation. A $100‡ travel reimbursement is also available for students who are attending from outside the Canterbury† region.
Full Fee Support Scholarships
UC Engineering is offering a number of Fee Support Scholarships to students who would otherwise be unable to attend the programme. These scholarships include full coverage of the programme fee, which include food and accommodation. A $100‡ travel reimbursement is also available for students who are attending from outside the Canterbury† region.
UC Engineering is working with a number of Industry Partners who have been approached about offering fee sponsorship to successful applicants. Students who are offered Industry Sponsorship, may be asked to participate in the promoting of their sponsor. This might include an article in a local publication, industry newsletter or a mention in a presentation to the attendee’s school or class.
