Meet Jackie Cowan, 2015 Winner | School of Sport and Physical Education. Jackie is described by her students as a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who takes the time to care.

Jackie is described by her students as a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who takes the time to care. She believes in providing opportunities that allow students to grow holistically, whilst meeting their individual needs in a culturally inclusive environment where learning can be enjoyed and prior experiences matter.

Jackie has taught for the past eight years across a wide range of subjects in the Bachelor of Education Physical Education and the Bachelor of Sport Coaching. She coordinates the first year of the BEdPE and dedicates herself to ensuring first-year students transition into tertiary study confidently and competently. She says that her ultimate outcomes for her students are supporting them in recognising their own desires for lifelong learning and developing their skills to become confident and independent learners.

She is involved in national research in her area and is currently studying for a PhD.

Jackie acknowledges the significance of positive relationships in regards to learning and how personal qualities and teacher dispositions such as compassion, trust, humour, understanding and support are fundamental in providing opportunities for each student to reach their potential.
