Overview

Develop the skills you need to lead large-scale, innovative projects across various industries with UC’s Master of Project Management.

This Online to On Campus programme enables you to start your degree online from anywhere in the world, and complete it on campus at the University of Canterbury.

Learning via a flipped classroom model you will explore advanced research methodologies, strategic management principles and systems thinking so you can successfully manage complex, large-scale projects across a range of industries. 

Our Online to On Campus programme for international students offers a 50% saving on your first semester of study.

The Online to On Campus Master of Project Management programme has three parts:

  • Online (four courses)
  • On Campus Flipped Classroom (four courses)
  • Applied or Research Project.
Online courses

To begin the Master of Project Management Online to On Campus, you will complete the following four courses online from anywhere in the world:

Term 1 (28 September 2026—29 November 2026)

  • PMGT6XX

Term 2 (15 February 2027—2 April 2027)

  • PMGT602
  • PMGT6XX
On Campus courses (Flipped Classroom)

Upon successful completion of the above courses, you will travel to Christchurch, New Zealand and complete the remaining courses on campus at UC.

These courses are taught via Flipped Classroom model. You’ll be based full-time at our Christchurch campus, and your core learning will take place through readings, videos, and digital resources. 

A dedicated study room on campus is reserved for MPM students (open 40 hours a week) where you will study side-by-side with classmates, at your own pace, along with weekly facilitated sessions and in-person assessments.

Term 3 (19 July 2027 onwards)

Applied or Research Management Project

Following successful completion of the above courses, you will remain on campus to complete one of the following project options:

To apply for the Online to On Campus Master of Project Management at UC you will need to meet these four requirements:

  • Three years of relevant professional experience in a project role or similar
  • Bachelor's degree or Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) in any subject
  • Minimum B- Grade Point Average in your previous degree
  • UC's Postgraduate English language requirements.

Online English language courses

If you need help meeting our language requirements, or you would like to practise your English skills before studying, UC offers an online course through our College of English (CCEL).

Completing this course will meet our minimum English language requirements.

Graduates of the Master of Project Management will be equipped to enhance project outcomes, drive innovation, and improve strategic alignment within organisations. As such, they will be able to apply for roles like:

  • Programme Manager
  • Project Lead
  • Programme Director
  • Head of Project Management Operations.
Work while you study

Your student visa will also allow you to work part-time while you study, and also do full-time work hours over university breaks and during the summer months.

Stay and work in New Zealand after graduating

You can apply for a Post Study Work Visa after you finish your degree to stay in New Zealand and work full-time for a duration.
