2026 Exchanges - applications closed

Application deadlines may change from those advertised in previous years and some partner universities have early application deadlines. Check here regularly to get the most up to date information about deadlines. 

The deadlines for applying are:

• Exchanges in Semester 1 2027: 31 May 2026
• Exchanges in Semester 2 2027: 1 September 2026

Early application deadlines apply to the following partner universities:

• University of California and University of Washington: there is only one application round/deadline, 31 May 2026 for exchanges to California or  Washington commencing in Semester 1 2027 for a one semester or one year exchange and Semester 2 2027 for a one year exchange.  Please apply before 31 May 2026. Note that it is not possible to undertake a one semester exchange at California or Washington commencing in Semester 2 (UC time). Note that a one year exchange would go across two academic years at California and Washington and it is up to these university if that is feasible.
  You are required to make an appointment and discuss your plan with the International Mobility team (ucmobility@canterbury.ac.nz) before you submit your exchange application.
• Waseda University, Bunkyo University and Kwansei Gakuin University: There is one application round only. Please apply before 31 May 2026 for an exchange in Semester 1 or Semester 2 2027. It is not possible to commence an exchange in Semester 2 2027 at Waseda University and Bunkyo University. 
• University of British Columbia (UBC): The application deadline for an exchange to UBC in Semester 1 2027 (UBC's Term 2, January intake) is 1 February 2026 .  If you wish to go to UBC in Semester 2 2027, you must apply before 1 September 2026.
• Queen's University (Arts and Science): The application deadline for an Arts or Science exchange to Queen's University in UC's Semester 1 2027 is 1 February 2026.  Applications for the Engineering exchange programme at Queen's for UC's Semester 1 and Semester 2 2027 close on 31 May 2026 and 1 September 2026 respectively.
• University of Nottingham: Due to the application timeframes of Nottingham, it is not possible to study English or Physics in Nottingham's Spring semester.
• Pompeu Fabra University - there is only one application round/deadline, 31 May 2026 for exchanges to Pompeu Fabra commencing in Semester 1 2027 for a one semester or one year exchange and Semester 2 2027 for a one year exchange.  Please apply before 31 May 2026. Note that it is not possible to undertake a one semester exchange at Pompeu Fabra commencing in Semester 2 (UC time). Note that a one year exchange would go across two academic years at Pompeu Fabra and it is up to the partner university if that is feasible.
