Zixi - UC Art History doctoral student
The Ethel Rose Overton Scholarship has exerted such a strong and profound impact on my PhD journey.
This scholarship particularly supports postgrad students in Art History, Art Theory, or Fine Arts at UC. It has not only largely reduced my financial stress so that I’m allowed to fully focus on my research, but also alerted me what it means to become an art historian.
It’s far more than just obtaining a doctoral degree or fulfilling any personal goals using this degree, but understanding and appreciating this beautiful fact that behind all your achievements, there is always a person or a group of people whom you haven’t even met in person for once, but have been here supporting you. They reassure you that you have made a right decision and, sticking to this path, your dreams will come true.
Purpose: To encourage graduate study into areas relevant to national security. Applicants must have obtained at least second class honours, division A, or equivalent in their qualifying degree and have completed academic studies in political science, history, economics or some other discipline that may be considered an appropriate foundation for such study. NB: this is a Universities NZ scholarship.
Value: Financial assistance of up to $50,000 per annum, normally for one year.
Closing date: 01 October - not offered 2025 or 2026
Purpose: To assist outstanding New Zealand classical instrumental performers (including vocal performance) or conductors to continue their musical development either in New Zealand or overseas. NB: this is a Universities NZ scholarship.
Value: Varies - but generally in the range of $50,000-$60,000 for up to 3 year.
