Painting

Introduction

Painting studies explores a range of techniques through different styles, tools, and practice, both traditional and contemporary.

You will discover different materials and learn about the role emotion and meaning plays for both the painter and the viewer.

There is strong competition for places in the Intermediate Year (first year) of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) – see the degree page for information on entry requirements and how to apply.

What will my study involve?

  • Create a body of work and reflect critically on the development of your own style.
  • Enjoy 24-hour access to your own personal studio space from second year.
  • Work in purpose-built studios, workrooms, darkrooms, and computer labs, and have access to technician workshops and the Ilam Campus Gallery.

Courses

Painting major

For the major in the Bachelor of Fine Arts, complete the following courses:

200-level

300-level

At least one 300-level ARTH course must be completed if you want to be eligible for Honours in your fourth year.

400-level

If you are completing your fourth year at Honours level, you will take FINA601 Fine Arts Honours Research instead of the 400-level courses above.
