Testimonials
Cass field station
Naomi Heller, PhD student in Ecology
The Cass field station was an essential part of my PhD fieldwork. Not only is it a wonderful location to stay overnight in the mountains, but being able to stay close to my field sites overnight saved us valuable field time and kept spirits high! It’s also an amazing location for undergrad field courses for freshwater ecology, with convenient teaching and lab facilities right next to some amazing streams and rivers.
Mount John Observatory
Mona Saw, MSc Student in Astronomy (Stellar Astronomy)
Mt John Observatory offers a uniquely supportive environment that truly enhances the observing experience. Its world-class instrumentation, combined with the exceptional dark-sky location, provides outstanding scientific advantages — allowing me to collect high-quality data and produce meaningful results for my MSc research
Cass field station
Dominic Muller, Summer scholar student
Cass is placed in a beautiful location and has amazing views out the living area and bedrooms of the surrounding basin. The living quarters are great, with sturdy bunks, comfortable mattresses, and handy power outlets in each bunkroom. The kitchen is better equipped than most homes and has enough pots/pans to really fill up a sink. The drying room is highly effective and a lifesaver when doing multiple days of field work in the rain. The showers are hot, the toilets function well, and the glow in the dark strips on the stairs really add a lovely ambience. Overall, I would rate the Cass Field Station a 10/10, truly a portal by which we can tap into the great outdoors.
