Research Drive and SharePoint

Research Drive

The UC Research Drive is University of Canterbury's On-Premise storage solution for research data. The Research Drive is suitable for sensitive data. Ideal for actively used data which changes frequently. Access is facilitated through UC Credentials, therefore, only internal sharing of data is available. Please note that you will need to be on the UC network to access this storage.   

Researchers can request access to the Research Drive to store data for their research projects. Please note that upon leaving UC, your access to the Research Drive is removed. 

SharePoint (Vault)

UC provides storage via SharePoint sites created using UC’s self-service Wizard. UC refers to SharePoint sites created using the Wizard as the ‘Vault’. SharePoint Vaults are managed by the Digital Information Programme team in Digital Services. Microsoft Teams is the portal/interface into your SharePoint Vault.

Data is stored on Australian servers (there is Microsoft intention for data storage to reside in New Zealand, dates unknown). In 2024 UC will enable Smart Guest management so UC staff can add external Guests to UC’s Guest Register rather than actioning via a Service Now Request. There are different access rights to files, folders, and libraries that Vault Site Administrators can self-manage (for example, read only and contribute). You can request Vault Site Administrator access via Service Now.
