We are a centre for applied research and teaching, run out of both Canterbury and Lincoln universities. Our research delivers insights into freshwater quantities, variability and processes ki uta ki tai, from the mountains to the sea. We also search for new ways to work together to address issues in multi-user freshwater systems including in river restoration and policy.
In 2023 we introduced two new masters degree programmes in water science and management. Go here for more information. Students will learn and apply knowledge to address pressing freshwater issues, drawing on mātauranga Māori, in conjunction with the latest advances in the science and management of freshwater.
Waterways is run by a core group of dedicated staff from Canterbury and Lincoln universities.
