CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS
Chinese martial arts encompass a wide range of practices, including Taijiquan, Sanda, and Baduanjin. Taijiquan is grounded in traditional Chinese philosophical thought and emphasises harmony between mind and body, with a variety of established styles. Sanda is a modern competitive discipline that combines striking and grappling techniques. Baduanjin, a widely practised form of qigong in China, features gentle, meditative movements and is valued for its health-enhancing benefits. Drawing on traditional philosophy, health-preserving practices, and practical movement systems, Chinese martial arts form a rich cultural tradition that promotes physical and mental wellbeing while offering insight into Chinese concepts of balance and self-cultivation.
CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS COURSES
Our Chinese martial arts courses focus on practical training and guided practice in Tai Chi and Sanda. Through structured instruction, students engage in slow, controlled Tai Chi movements that develop posture, breath control, coordination, and mental focus, while exploring how these principles can be applied in partner work and self-defence contexts.
Sanda training complements this internal practice with dynamic drills, including strikes, takedowns, footwork, and controlled sparring, helping students build strength, agility, and responsive combat skills. Together, these components offer a balanced learning experience that integrates internal cultivation with external technique.
These courses are suitable for learners seeking to improve physical fitness, mental clarity, and body awareness, as well as those with an interest in applied martial arts and Chinese culture. For class schedules and fee information, please visit our Evening Courses page.
