UC provides email service to all students and staff. For students (inc postgraduates) your UC email address is the main email account for sending UC Communications.
Undergraduate student email is provided using Microsoft's cloud service Office 365.

Accessing your email via a browser
You can check your email through the Office 365 web interface by entering your email address and password.
Access your email on a iOS device
We recommend using Microsoft Outlook as your mail client on iOS devices.
You will now be able to use your @uclive.ac.nz email on your iOS device.
Access your email on an Android device
Android mail apps may look different across different devices, and these directions may not exactly match the options you see. Use these steps as a guide or consult the manufacturer's help for your particular device.
From the Settings menu, select Accounts > select Microsoft Exchange Active Sync > Enter your email address and password

Using another email address
If you prefer to use a different email address to the one provided by UC, you can use the “forward” rule in Office 365 or you can redirect messages to another email account.

Postgraduate and staff email is provided by UC.
Postgraduate email is not provided to all postgraduate students.
Postgraduate email is primarily provided to MA and PhD thesis students (those enrolled in 690 and 790 courses).
The address format for postgraduates is firstname.lastname@pg.canterbury.ac.nz and is this will be the main email account for UC communication.
The address format for staff is firstname.lastname@canterbury.ac.nz.

Accessing your email via a browser
Postgraduates (and staff from off campus) can access their email through the Outlook Web App using a browser here.
Staff can access their email via Outlook which will be installed on their assigned computer.
Get email on your mobile device
You can use a mobile device to send and receive emails from your staff email account.
Please download the Microsoft Outlook app from the App Store (Apple) or Google Play Store (Android).
U.C. does not support other mail clients on mobile devices.
Microsoft Defender for Microsoft 365 (Spam)
University of Canterbury (UC) has implemented Microsoft Defender for Microsoft 365, Microsoft’s solution for email protection.
Defender will help protect UC users and systems from malicious emails that could harm computers and infrastructure or compromise system data. In addition to messages coming to your inbox, you will have a junk and quarantine folder.
