"The knowledge one could take by doing MET at UC is both very scientific and practical..."

HOW TO APPLY

Master of Engineering in Transportation

Director and Owner, Traffic Engineering Centre Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia

As a business owner of Traffic Engineering Centre, Zoran has already accomplished much in his career in the traffic engineering industry. His role sees him turn business proposals into reality, with investigative assessments in transportation engineering and planning.

“I think about what service I can offer that is valuable and useful for people and to our community. I have passion in doing something useful for people and the money follows,” he says. “I believe in offering excellent customer service and value, and I am continually looking for ways to make both the clients’ business and mine better.”

Originally from Serbia, Zoran had followed friends to live in New Zealand, and later moved to Australia to explore other career opportunities and ultimately start his business.

Having already completed a master’s degree in Traffic and Logistics, Zoran decided on UC’s Master of Engineering in Transportation (MET), following the advice of a friend who had completed the MET a few years’ earlier.

“The knowledge one could take by doing MET at University of Canterbury is both very scientific and practical for daily activities,” he says. “I would strongly recommend UC’s MET for anyone who would like to extend the practical knowledge in the field of traffic and transportation.

“I enjoyed everything – but traffic safety in particular. Great lectures, especially by Prof Alan Nicholson and [back then] Prof Andre Dantas.”

The programme was good preparation for Zoran’s career as an entrepreneur and business owner. A few short years after graduating, Zoran had begun his company in Sydney, specialising in traffic impact and engineering studies, parking studies, road safety audits and business development for clients.

“There is tremendous competition in our industry, so I am always on my toes and always trying to do better. I also compete with myself. I keep challenging myself to move forward and to maintain momentum. I always strive to do things, no matter how much success I may have achieved,” he says.

It’s this philosophy that will see Zoran take his business far, taking on the challenges of a steadily growing industry in transportation solutions.

“I believe that the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
