My life experience has been a catalyst for embracing diversity and leveraging it as a powerful tool in my learning journey.

What stands out for you about UC’s MBA programme?

I had been looking for a programme that truly aligned with my personal values and aspirations, and UC's commitment to sustainability deeply resonated with me. In an era where responsible business practices are paramount, I appreciate how UC has integrated sustainability as a core element of its curriculum. This approach also positions me to address critical environmental and societal challenges while pursuing my business career.

Moreover, the programme’s comprehensive coverage of authentic leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation and digital transformation is both relevant and incredibly captivating to me. These areas are pivotal in navigating today's dynamic business landscape. UC's unique approach to weaving these themes together offers a well-rounded perspective on modern business challenges and opportunities.

What are your future career goals, and how do you see your MBA helping you reach them?

My career background lies in geomatics, where I have substantial experience in tackling technical challenges and devising technologically innovative solutions. However, my exposure has been primarily limited to the technical aspect, and I have yet to explore the intricacies of the business world. UC’s programme holds immense promise in helping me transition into this multi-faceted perspective. It’s allowing me to realise what strengths and opportunities I can offer to the business.

The programme provides a unique opportunity to delve into subjects such as authentic leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation, which are critical in today's rapidly evolving business landscape. This knowledge will empower me to make informed decisions that consider not only the technical aspects of a problem but also its implications on people, businesses, and the economy. Moreover, the program's emphasis on resilience-building is particularly pertinent in our fast-paced and ever-changing world.

You’re working full-time while studying part-time. How do you balance all your obligations?

I made the deliberate choice to continue working full-time while pursuing my MBA on a part-time basis. Undoubtedly, this path has been demanding and intense, necessitating some personal sacrifices. The MBA cohort and the diverse group of individuals I've had the privilege of meeting have been nothing short of fantastic. Each person comes from a unique background with their own stories, yet we all share the common goal while managing our professional commitments. This shared journey has allowed me to forge new relationships and friendships that provide crucial emotional support and mutual encouragement.

Have you found ways to apply your learnings to your job?

I am fortunate to have incredibly supportive leaders who not only encouraged me to pursue my MBA but also provided me with the flexibility to integrate my studies into my current role. I firmly believe in a 'learn-by-doing' approach, and the programme aligns perfectly with this philosophy. It is structured to balance theoretical knowledge with practical and relevant experience, and I've found I can directly apply what I learn in the classroom to real-world challenges at work.

How do you think your life and work experience has enriched your academic journey?

Coming from a technical background, I believe my prior experience has played a pivotal role in enhancing my understanding of the subjects covered in the program. My life experience has been a catalyst for embracing diversity and leveraging it as a powerful tool in my learning journey.

One of the most striking aspects of my experience has been the wide range of perspectives I encounter in my classes. The diversity in backgrounds, cultures, and experiences among my fellow students has expanded my horizons and challenged my preconceptions, fostering a richer learning environment.

Any words of advice for other adults considering study?

Just do it! I can completely relate to the initial apprehension and fear of reentering a formal learning environment. However, I've learned that it's not the same as it used to be. We bring valuable life experience and a genuine passion for learning something new to the table.

I appreciate the MBA programme’s flexibility in tailoring your learning experience to your needs and goals. Looking back at my journey, I am incredibly grateful that I took the leap. Pursuing further education not only advances your career but also contributes to personal growth. It has transformed not only what I do but also who I am.

So, my message is clear: Embrace the opportunity!
