Support student hardship

25 February 2026

Most UC students can plan for course costs and rent. What can be hard to plan for is the day life shifts without warning.

HOW TO APPLY

A need to get home quickly. A whānau emergency. A change in living circumstances that means they need a safe place to stay. Hardship does not discriminate and comes in many shapes and sizes.

Supporting students through these tough times is where we can come together to help.

Support from alumni and friends can bridge that gap. It can give a student breathing room, reduce immediate pressure and help them stay enrolled and connected to their future.

What your support makes possible

Gifts to the Student Hardship Fund help provide urgent, short-term help such as:

  • Emergency accommodation and safe housing support

  • Food, essentials and help to stay warm

  • Urgent travel to get home when a whānau crisis hits

  • One-off grants that relieve immediate financial pressure so study can continue

This is the kind of support that works because it is available quickly, when timing matters most.
