This project focuses on the conservation of two iconic penguin species, who live in two extremes: emperor penguins, the largest penguins who breed on the extreme cold, isolated ice in Antarctica; and kororā | little blue penguins, the smallest penguins, who breed in close proximity to humans. In this project, evidence from both population ecology and genetics will be leveraged to generate an adaptive management plan for each species.
We are seeking a highly motivated student with a background in biology or a related field. Applicants with experience with statistical analyses typical to ecology and/or with analysing large datasets will be looked upon favourably. Experience using R, python, or other programming languages is a plus. The ability to conduct field-based or laboratory-based research will be viewed as an asset. Must be able to start no later than 1 June 2027.

Does the project come with funding
Per annum: Stipend of $32,650 plus PhD tuition fees. The project also has up to $5,000 available for research expenses across the duration of the degree.
Funding duration: Three years (360 points)
