Overview


Moving Images

At UC Moving Image encompasses film, sound, performance, installation, and contemporary art practice. The programme combines critical inquiry, collaborative exhibition-making, and hands-on technical exploration.

Work is developed for both gallery and screen-based contexts, with close attention to how audiences encounter image, sound, space, and time. Through sustained research, experimentation, and production, students examine the role of moving image within contemporary artistic and cultural contexts.

  • Studio-based practice and collaborative projects working across moving image, sound, performance, and installation.
  • Use of purpose-built lighting studios, analogue and high-end digital equipment, sound studios, and editing suites, with 24-hour access to studio spaces.

Moving Image major

For the major in the Bachelor of Fine Arts, complete the following courses:

200-level

300-level

At least one 300-level ARTH or CINE course must be completed if you want to be eligible for Honours in your fourth year.

400-level

If you are completing your fourth year at Honours level, you will take FINA601 Fine Arts Honours Research instead of the 400-level courses above.

Moving Images

Your works and experience throughout your studies explore both technical and non-technical aspects of film, television, and other creative visual industries.

Career pathways could include:

  • film or tv directing
  • producing
  • cinematography
  • screenwriting.
