Christchurch Conference on International and Transnational Legal Frameworks

12-13 March 2026

Rydges Latimer Christchurch, 30 Latimer Square, Christchurch Central City

The  Christchurch Conference on International and Transnational Legal Frameworks 2026, hosted by Te Whare Wanānga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury, New Zealand  brings together the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) — the three international and intergovernmental institutions that provide the core legal frameworks facilitating cross-border transactions and legal cooperation — along with a  selection of leading thinkers and practitioners from around the world in a wide range of international and transnational legal domains. We are honoured to welcome the CISG Advisory Council as one of our distinguished guests.

The Conference seeks to attract a wide audience with diverse topics such as international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, international trade and B-to-B transnational law, international agricultural trade, cross-border family law and investor state disputes, as well as the challenges digitization and certain emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence and distributed ledger technologies, pose in international law.

Key aims of the Conference include highlighting the importance of international cooperation for business success, the development of best practices in agricultural contracts, and the establishment of robust legal frameworks for small and medium-sized enterprises, adding an Oceanic perspective to the debates.
