Global Impact Industry Project

01 April 2026

Considering international expansion? The Global Impact Industry Project connects your business with a UC Business School student team who will analyse your target market and deliver a strategic report at no cost. The programme runs from 24 July to 2 October 2026.

Registrations close: 8 May 2026.

HOW TO APPLY

Te Kura Umanga | UC Business School is seeking expressions of interest from New Zealand businesses for our 2026 Global Impact Industry Project. Over ten weeks, a team of domestic and international students, advised by UC Business School staff and external industry experts, will investigate your market(s) of interest and produce research designed to inform your expansion decision.

Following the expression of interest process, businesses will be matched with teams based on the fit between your target market and the background of available students.

The programme provides real-world experience to UC Business School students, while enabling businesses to benefit from their unique knowledge and expertise.

  • A market research report delivered at no cost. Student teams produce substantive analysis covering market viability and entry considerations relevant to your business.
  • Cross-cultural analytical depth. The matching process is designed to connect businesses with teams that bring relevant cultural knowledge and language access.
  • Strategic value at low time cost. The analysis produced would require significant internal resource or consultancy spend to replicate. Your total time commitment is around four to five hours across the ten-week programme.
  • Early access to emerging talent. An opportunity to identify and connect with high-potential students before they enter the market, with past clients having gone on to hire from their project teams.

This project works best for businesses who are in the early stages of considering a new international market, particularly within Asia.

The programme is fully coordinated by UC Business School, which will act as a liaison point between the team and their company.

The only commitments required from participating businesses are:

  • Help developing a short-written project brief introducing your company and outlining what the student team(s) will focus on. A template to check and add to will be provided.
  • Attend an initial meeting (1 to 1.5 hours) with the student team(s) at the start of the programme to introduce your company, explain your objectives in more detail, and answer any initial questions.
  • Participate in two follow-up check-in meetings (30 mins to 1 hour) with your team(s) in August and September to hear their progress, answer any questions, and provide feedback on their direction.
  • Attend a final presentation on 2 October (30 mins to 1 hour).

“We were impressed with the high calibre and professionalism of the students involved. Their inquisitiveness, depth of analysis and research made this extremely valuable exercise for our business. The findings were presented in a highly professional manner, demonstrating a strong understanding of both the Indian business environment and the strategic challenges and opportunities relevant to Argus Heating.

This project has enabled us to significantly progress our thinking and planning around market entry into India. The students provided a high level of detail and insight that would have required substantial internal resources had we undertaken this work ourselves. Their analysis has given us clear direction and confidence in defining our next steps for approaching the Indian market.

We are very fortunate to have been included in this program. It has provided strong strategic value for our international growth initiatives as we look to enter new markets and has also strengthened our connection with the UC Business School. The professionalism and quality of work delivered by the student team has set an impressive benchmark for future studies. “

Tom Munro, VP Sales & Marketing at Argus Heating

“We were thoroughly impressed by the quality, depth, and professionalism of the work produced. The students demonstrated a clear understanding of our company’s objectives and delivered insightful market research that has real value to us.

The level of effort, critical thinking, and strategic analysis that went into the project exceeded our expectations. It was a worthwhile and rewarding experience, and we have already begun exploring how we can apply some of the findings to our business strategy.

We highly encourage other companies to take part in future projects with the Business School. It's a fantastic way to gain fresh perspectives while supporting the next generation of business professionals.”
