Four wins for University of Canterbury Rugby against rivals

Part of 150th – and 140th – anniversary celebration events, University of Canterbury Rugby Club’s day of games against Lincoln University were all won by UC.

Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) Rugby Club’s history with friendly rival Lincoln dates back to 25 June 1883 when the rugby sides first played each other, and there was a good turnout 140 years later at UC’s Ilam campus on Saturday (29 April).

Chancellor Hon. Amy Adams presented the Hart-O’Reilly Trophy to the Men’s Premier team, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Cheryl de la Rey cut the anniversary celebration cake and met with sponsors and alumni. She attended the UC 150th anniversary celebration Service of Thanksgiving that same evening.

“Winning all four games being played during our university’s 150th and the UC Rugby team’s 140th celebrations is a fantastic result. Well done to everyone who played a part in this beautifully timed success,” Professor De la Rey says.

The results were:

Premier Men vs. Lincoln: 31 – 29 win

Premier Women vs. Lincoln: 60 - 10 win

Colts A (Under 21 Men) vs. Lincoln:  20 – 12 win

Colts B (Under 21 Men) vs. Lincoln: 27 – 5 win
