The University of Canterbury supports the right of our students and staff to lawful protest, balanced with the responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of UC students, staff, and visitors to campus.

This afternoon a protest gathering (including students and non-students) moved to a communal meeting and study space at UC.

UC would like to address misinformation shared by the protest group. The University does not invest in any companies which build or supply weapons or military equipment, a position underpinned by and in line with University of Canterbury investment policies. Student Achievement Component (SAC) and tuition fees are not used in any UC investments.

UC encourages respectful discourse on campus in line with the Student Code of Conduct and the Staff Code of Conduct, which are policies agreed to by all UC students and staff when they join UC. UC is committed to fostering diversity and equity on campus, and emphasises the importance of respect, tolerance, and empathy for others.
