The one day event, hosted by UC’s Child Well-being Research Institute brought together reading researchers, school leaders, speech-language therapists, teachers and literacy specialists from across Aotearoa New Zealand to showcase leading research into children’s literacy.
Organisers were thrilled to offer a panel including keynote speakers Professor Russell Bishop from University of Waikato and Associate Professor Marleen Westerveld from Griffith University both recognisable for their influential contributions to education and support children’s literacy development.
Professor Russell Bishop's keynote addressed 'Culturally responsive and relationship-based pedagogy,' while Associate Professor Marleen Westerveld spoke about 'The importance of oral narrative skills to support children’s reading comprehension.'

UC research shared on the day included the effective inventions for children with dyslexia, screen use and learning, advancing literacy in English language learners and vocabulary development.
