Master's and PhD study
The NCRE graduate programme is a unique training and development initiative designed to produce graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge for the 21st Century.
As Graduate of the NCRE you will belong to an international institutional network, part of the University of Canterbury's elite university wide research centres, a member of the NZ EU Centres Network as well as a number of Asia'Pacific EU studies networks and the global Jean Monnet programme. Through these linkages NCRE graduates will have the opportunity to participate in conferences, workshops, and untertake exchanges - within New Zealand, as well as with partners in Asia and the EU.
Master of Arts in European Studies - MA by thesis
The NCRE supervises Masters degrees by thesis covering a wide range of topics broadly within the social sciences, but which all focus on specific aspects of Europe and the European Union.
Students normally commence their thesis in February and are expected to complete within 12-15 months. However, students can enrol at any time of the year and can take up to 24 months to complete if required.
All new thesis students are required to enrol in EURO480 Research paper during the year.
All thesis students require at least two supervisors: these may be exclusively drawn from NCRE staff or may include supervisors from other academic departments at the University of Canterbury, other New Zealand universities or partner institutions overseas.

Taught Master in European Studies - MEuro
The MEuro programme is a 12-month taught Masters course designed to teach students about the role of the European Union in global politics.
The programme has two commencement dates (February and July). Students enrolling in this programme will take three compulsory courses and complete a dissertation. The rest of the programme will be individually tailored combining an additional three electives taught by staff from European Union Studies and related disciplines.

Timeframe
The programme will take a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 18 months to complete.
