Newcomers Group

The University wants to make you and your family feel welcome to the campus and its community. A group of volunteers closely associated to the University host the Newcomers Group. They meet for coffee mornings, walks or drinks at the University’s Staff Club. It is a great way to meet new and retired staff, partners and children.

The University wants to make you and your family feel welcome to the campus and its community. A group of volunteers closely associated to the University host the Newcomers Group. They meet for coffee mornings, walks or drinks at the University’s Staff Club. It is a great way to meet new and retired staff, partners and children.

The group consists mainly of partners/family of our academic staff. You are welcome to come for a coffee, walk or drinks and these lovely people will help to make you feel at home in your new city, without any obligation on your part.

The Newcomers Newletter Information (PDF) includes days, times and places of meetings and walks.

University Staff Club

The University of Canterbury Club (UCC) is a friendly and welcoming social club located across the road from the University of Canterbury at the iconic and beautiful Ilam Homestead.

Membership is open to all current and retired UC staff, postgraduate students, UC Alumni, Erskine visitors and people associated with the University of Canterbury however, you are welcome to visit UCC as a guest before you join.

Citizens Advice Bureau

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) offers information and support for migrants about settling into New Zealand. CAB has a walk-in settlement information service and offers workshops and seminars for recent migrants.
