Congratulations on your gold medal at the World Trampoline Championships last year (2022) in the Double Mini Trampoline! What training and preparation went into winning a title such as this?
I have been a competitive trampolinist for the last 17 years, and within those years there have been many ups and downs. It has taken a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice but to come away with the world title is a dream come true and makes it all worth it in the end.
What first inspired you to take up trampolining, and what has driven you to continue with the sport for so many years?
I was a competitive gymnast, and my brother was doing trampoline classes while I was at gymnastics training. I liked the look of trampoline and decided to give it a go, eventually quitting gymnastics to focus on trampoline. I enjoy the feeling of flying through the air and doing things others think are impossible.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you also tried your hand at rugby union, with great success! Is the goal of becoming a Black Fern still on the table?
I have been playing rugby for the last three years and absolutely love it. I will give rugby my all and see where it takes me. Any opportunity I get to play is a privilege and an honour to be around the most amazing bunch of athletes.
You were named Sportsperson of the Year at the UC 2020 Blues Awards. What did this award mean to you?
I am always honoured and grateful for the acknowledgement of my success and this award was extra special and humbling to have been named the Sportsperson of the Year for the UC 2020 Blues Awards as I know there are many talented athletes that are very deserving of this award.
How did you juggle training and studying during your time here?
I was lucky enough to have a great team around me to support and assist with what I needed to be able to juggle both. It was a hectic time for me, but all my lecturers were very understanding and accommodating. I had to learn some great time management skills.
What were your fondest memories of your time here at UC?
It would have to be the awesome opportunities I got to experience and the amazing people I got to meet.
