The conference brought together leading criminologists, criminal justice scholars, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and postgraduate students from across Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, and beyond to discuss contemporary challenges and innovations in criminology and criminal justice under the theme ‘Navigating Variance: Intersectionality in Criminology’.

The conference featured keynote presentations, panel discussions, and research presentations covering a wide range of topics, including criminal justice reform, policing, corrections, youth justice, victimisation, mental health and criminal justice, Indigenous justice, and emerging criminological research. The event provided an important platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange between academics and practitioners working to address complex social and justice issues.

A particular highlight of the conference was the opportunity to showcase the University of Canterbury's growing strengths in criminal justice education and research while fostering new national and international research partnerships. The conference also provided valuable networking and professional development opportunities for emerging scholars and postgraduate researchers.
