Kia ora, I'm Hayden.
I've spent over 25 years supporting young people and families, and one thing I've learnt is that nobody has life completely figured out. Sometimes all we need is someone who will listen, help us untangle what's going on, and work alongside us to find a way forward. I want you to know that when we meet you can bring whatever is on your mind. Whether that's something big, something small, or simply not knowing where to start.
Before joining UC I worked in youth justice, education, community services, and specialist therapeutic practice. I've supported people through mental health concerns, trauma, relationship difficulties, harmful sexualised behaviours, and family challenges. My work is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which means I focus on helping you build on your strengths, respond to life's challenges with flexibility, and move towards the life you want to live.
When I'm not at work, you'll probably find me building LEGO creations, around a table playing board games with mates, up too late online gaming, or enjoying time with my whānau (wife and 4 children). I believe shared interests, curiosity and a healthy sense of humour help create genuine connections, and sometimes that's exactly what we need when taking the first step to ask for support.
