My research involves the quantification of the volatile budget for Melanesian volcanoes by analysis of naturally glassy melt inclusions from early crystallizing phases.  Melt inclusions are pockets of melt trapped during crystallization that can be used to reconstruct magmatic conditions of entrapment.  I will be using a variety of analytical techniques (EMP, LA-ICP-MS, FTIR, and Raman) to determine the composition of melt inclusions in order to ascertain the volatile budget, source composition, melting processes and extraction.
