Studying towards a PhD in Geography

HOW TO APPLY

Location: Amersfoort, the Netherlands

Country of origin: Netherlands

The purpose of my study is to assess the role of life events (e.g. residential relocation, starting employment and household composition changes) and socialisation in the continuity and changes of active travel behaviour. By means of two case studies, I will assess the active travel behaviour of professional newcomers (e.g. expats) in the Netherlands and New Zealand and investigate to what extent cultural and social norms, built environment characteristics and life events have affected their past and current behaviour. Findings from this study will likely be helpful to practitioners and researchers, as it provides more insights in the role of travel socialisation in active travel behaviour throughout the life course, thereby gaining a better understanding in how to successfully target interventions aimed at promoting walking and cycling among citizens of New Zealand.
