Abstract

Education is changing. Universities are demanding ‘innovative’, digital and distance education to capture an increasingly fluid student body and competitive tertiary market. Meanwhile the demographic and overall personality of student bodies are constantly changing. Digital storytelling and blended learning are two tools that I am experimenting with to address the multiple needs and complexities of contemporary students, align with university teaching goals and … because they both incorporate one of my personal interests … videography. In my talk, I will provide an overview of the projects I have completed and am currently undertaken in the geography education space, including: The Spatial Awareness Film Project (an aerial land use film and podcast series), GIS and UAV Camp for high school students, shifting to a blended mode of learning.
