The University of Canterbury is a leader in the study of human language through the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour, and focuses on a range of disciplines including speech production and perception, language acquisition, language disorders, social cognition, memory, brain imaging, cognitive science, bilingual education, and interface technologies. University of Canterbury academics are also leaders at the Rose Centre for Stroke Recovery and Research housed at St George’s Hospital, helping people regain independence following stroke through speech therapy and swallowing rehabilitation.
