In a sold-out UC Connect public lecture, Weta Digital's multiple Oscar-winning Senior VFX Supervisor Joe Letteri, ONZM, will discuss the changing landscape of visual effects (VFX) creation and the integration of virtual tools into the film production process.

In a sold-out UC Connect public lecture at the University of Canterbury, Weta Digital’s multiple Oscar-winning Senior VFX Supervisor Joe Letteri, ONZM, will discuss the changing landscape of visual effects (VFX) creation and the integration of virtual tools into the film production process. 

Letteri’s talk - Bringing the Virtual to Reality: Creating the VFX Image - will begin with the origins of virtual production all the way back on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy production. It will continue through his experiences on Avatar, The Adventures of Tintin, The Hobbit trilogy and the new Planet of the Apes franchise.

Director of the multi-award-winning Weta Digital, having joined the company in 2001, Letteri is a four-time Academy Award® winner. He has been at the forefront of many of today’s modern techniques including the quintessential virtual production pipeline created through his work with Academy Award®-winning film director James Cameron on Avatar
