HOW TO APPLY

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Wright says “UC is home of the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour, and host of QuakeCoRE, and these results clearly signal that we are undertaking world-class research in these centres. Our postgraduate students also contribute immensely to the success, breadth, and impact of the research in these subjects, and will undoubtedly attract future students to UC.”

Eleven UC subjects have ranked in the top 200 in the annual rankings, including; Earth and Marine Sciences, Geography, Philosophy, Environmental Sciences, Education, Law, Sociology, and Politics and International Studies.

Professor Wright observed that this result sets the foundation for UC to continue building its international reputation of research, teaching and learning excellence.

“The subject rankings indicate we are on the correct trajectory to increase our ranking and international reputation for teaching and research excellence, which is an area of intense focus for the University over the next five years,” he says. “Our new 10-year post-earthquake strategy, is clearly supporting a renewed emphasis on high-quality research that has an impact regionally and globally”.

Politics and International Studies have achieved a ranking for the first time, placing the subject in the top 200 globally. The newly created School of Earth and Environment has also achieved favourable rankings with Earth and Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Geography all ranking in the top 200.
