Manawa Energy Engineers Matt Sprigings and Aaron Chinnery Brown, led the students on a tour, seeing the inner workings of the hydroelectricity station and visiting the surge chamber and intake. The group also enjoyed a presentation on the history of the site.

EPECentre was delighted to be able to offer the opportunity this year with Manawa Energy after the annual Power Systems Field Trip was cancelled earlier in the year due to COVID19 restrictions. Students who attended the trip had great feedback—they appreciated gaining insight into the power industry and said visiting the power station in person “helped put learning into context”. They also benefitted from connecting with Manawa Energy Engineers (UC Engineering alumni) and learning about employment pathways after graduation.
