Professor Charles Fleischmann (Civil and Natural Resources Engineering) has been recognised as one of New Zealand’s top tertiary teachers.

Professor Fleischmann has received one of 12 Ako Aotearoa National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards.

Professor Fleishmann said he sees his role as one of engaging students, guiding their learning and fostering their problem-solving skills. He is a leader at UC in online support for students and is known for the diverse resources that he provides student learning. Professor Fleischmann‘s fields of research includes compartment fire modelling, fire dynamics and fire engineering.

The award includes $20,000 in prize money to be used for career development and to promote best practice in teaching.

Professor Fleischmann is the tenth teacher from UC to receive the national Ako Aotearoa teaching award.
