Description

A comprehensive examination of adult development within a family context.

This course will consider a number of topics in Family Psychology, with an emphasis on theoretical advances and current research findings in the field. There will be a focus on the relevance of research in Family Psychology to critical issues in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Goals of the Course:
1.   To introduce students to current research and theory in Family Psychology.
2.   To explore the relevance of this research to the New Zealand context.
3.   To introduce students to the professional work of psychologists in the Child & Family area.

LIMITED ENTRY COURSE OF 15 STUDENTS

Learning Outcomes

A graduate of the course will be expected to be able to:
Personal Attributes:
1. Identify several major areas of contemporary research in family psychology.
2. Relate these to the New Zealand context.
3. Understand the implications of research for policy/interventions.
4. Present research and theory to audiences in a variety of formats, including lectures, tutorials, poster presentation, and essays.
Interactive Attributes:
1. Be able to work collaboratively on presentation of ideas and information.
