The Law regulating or promoting competition in the New Zealand economy.

A study of competition law and policy in New Zealand

This course considers the law relating to anti-competitive business practices.  It will begin by briefly describing economic and legal justifications for the promotion of competition in society, and will then consider specific topics in competition law.  These topics will include: the role of the Commerce Commission; supervision of business acquisitions; regulation of monopolies; and restrictive trade practices (cartels, misuse of market power, and practices substantially lessening competition).  The course focuses on the provisions in the Commerce Act 1986.
