Description

The course explores the fundamental principles and applications of knowledge related to the surface of the earth in the sub-disciplines of geomorphology, climatology and hydrology. Systems studied include landforms, glaciers, climate, and rivers. The main objective of the course is to explain the spatial and temporal characteristics, and the interaction between these systems in an interdisciplinary manner by drawing extensively from New Zealand examples.

Environmental processes is an exciting topic, from which you can hardly escape in your everyday life, from the wind that blow in your face at the beach to the tremors shaking Christchurch and New Zealand. This course aims to explain the different processes that shape our landscapes and our planet today and during geological times as well.

Such knowledge is important for numerous reasons: from natural hazards to resource management, including your own safety when you go tramping in the Alps or when you go sailing around the coasts.

The course is divided into different sections, in which specialists will come and talk about their specialties and passions, which we hope can be passed on to you.

Prerequisites

Any 30 points of 100-level Geography, or
entry with approval of the Head of Department
