An examination of evidence-based practices for specialist teachers of learners who have complex educational needs, including common professional practices of specialist teachers and other educational and health professionals involved in special and inclusive education.
Students who complete this paper successfully should be able to:Analyse, synthesise, and evaluate evidence-based practices in Complex Educational Needs including generic interprofessional practices relating to special and inclusive education; Apply a collaborative and consultative model of working in partnership with other professionals, stakeholders, family, whānau, and communities; Demonstrate professional skills relating to learning with, from, and about other specialist through engaging in interprofessional communities of practice;Demonstrate an understanding of Māori and multicultural concepts and practices as they relate to professional practice in general and Complex Educational Needs in particular.

This programme includes two compulsory face-to-face block courses. The first block course will be held at Massey University's Albany campus on Monday 10th-Friday 14th February 2014. Students enrolled in EDST652 are required to attend on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th February (9 am-5 pm). The second block course for this programme will be held at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch on Monday 25th-Friday 29th August 2014. Students enrolled in EDST652 are required to attend on Wednesday 27th August and Thursday 28 August (9 am-5 pm). Further information related to these block courses will be forwarded in mid-January once enrolment is confirmed.
