Description

The nature, prevalence, causes and current intervention relating to disorders and disabilities arising during the developmental period.

Learning Outcomes

1. To develop an understanding of different theoretical perspectives
2. To develop an understanding of foundational processes in the development of children with genetic, prenatal, antenatal and postnatal differences
3. To develop skills in accessing relevant and appropriate and current information
4. To develop skills in understanding of research

Assessment

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Chapter Quizzes and Participation 25% Weekly class participation and weekly online quiz over assigned reading (to be completed each week between Tuesday and the following Monday 3:30pm).
Research Report 35% 5 page double spaced summary and discussion of one pre-approved research study related to the assigned readings. This is due by 3pm.
Final Test 40% An in-class examination over assigned readings, in class instruction and other class materials will be conducted the final day of the class.

Additional Course Outline Information

Academic integrity

All forms of cheating and dishonest practice are taken seriously and penalties will result. Students should refer to Regulation J of the General Course and Examination Regulations. Students will check their own assignments for similarity using Turnitin prior to submission. Procedures will be explained in class.

Assessment and grading system

As per assessment schedule. Guildlines used by the marker will be posted on LEARN and discussed with students.

Attendance

Attendance at weekly class meetings and participation during classes is encouraged.

Evaluation

Formal and informal evaluation will take place in accordance with the relevant Course Evaluation Policy, to provide feedback to teaching staff about the relevance and validity of what has been learned as well as the quality of course delivery. The lecturer will feedback to the students information underpinning course design and evaluation.

Grade moderation

The College undertakes a process of internal and external moderation of assessment. This is to ensure the assessment system is fair, equitable, consistent and manageable. If students are unhappy with their grade they should approach the course co-ordinator in the first instance to discuss or request a remark.

Late submission of work

Late papers may be accepted for marking. Email the course coordinator.

Requests for extensions

If you require an extension, please email Kathleen before the due date, giving a reason for an extension and suggesting how long an extension you need.  Workload or timetable issues are not acceptable reasons for an extension. A new due date will be arranged with you individually.

Resubmissions

Not accepted.

Where to submit and collect work

Students will be expected to submit their assessments during scheduled class meetings. Marked work will be returned in class.
