Description

Manufacturing processes, metrology and conceptual design.

The course seeks to make students aware of effective design communications, the design decision-making process, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and the use of standard components/materials such as metric fasteners and rolled hollow sections (RHS). To achieve this, students will actively undertake Embodiment and Detailed design tasks, set in the context of the formalized design process.

Learning Outcomes

The course seeks to make students aware of effective design communications, the design decision-making process, manufacturing processes, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and the use of standard engineering components/materials. To achieve this, students will actively undertake Embodiment and Detailed design tasks, set in the context of the formalized design process.

Learning Outcomes
Students should be able to:
 Competently apply the Engineering Drawing Standard, SAA/SNZ HB1:1994 – Technical Drawing for Students
 Communicate effectively through the use of sketching and drawing techniques
 Adopt terminology and vocabulary of basic engineering components, systems and manufacturing processes
 Confidently read and understand orthographic drawings
 Create Detailed and Assembly Drawings in CAD
 Confidently model engineering components and assemblies in CAD
 Select a manufacturing process
 Choose appropriate techniques for joining components and materials
