This is a 30-credit 0.25 EFTS online Level 8 course, running from November - February. This course is suitable for language teachers or those who plan to teach languages, especially those who are teaching English as a second or foreign language or other languages without having a specialist language teaching qualification, or those who qualified long ago or in a very different kind of educational system.

The students will gain a comprehensive overview of the field of language learning and teaching and the ability to judiciously plan for research-informed language courses for a variety of settings, target languages, learners and learning environments.

This is a course that is compulsory in the Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MTESOL), the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (PGCertTESOL) and the Master of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (MCALL). It is a restricted optional course in the PGDipEd and the MEd endorsed in Teaching and Learning Languages. It can also be taken as a stand-alone course for a Certificate of Proficiency or with something else for a PGCertEd.

There will be weekly real-time online meetings at 3.30 – 4.30 pm on Thursdays which will be recorded for later (re)viewing by those who cannot be online at that time; the rest of the course will be flexible in time as well as space.
